Preparing for your first consultation

A consultation for a kidney stone works best when you come with:

  • A GP or specialist referral letter (required for Medicare rebate eligibility).
  • Your most recent imaging - ideally the CT scan images on a disc or a link, not just the written report.
  • Previous hospital discharge summaries and operation reports, if any.
  • Recent blood tests (kidney function, calcium) and urine culture if done.
  • Any stone composition analysis results if a stone has previously been retrieved.
  • A list of current medications and relevant medical history.

Fees, gaps and insurance

Dr Kooner accepts GP and specialist referrals. Medicare rebates apply for eligible consultations and procedures. Private health insurance is helpful for hospital admissions (ureteroscopy, ESWL, PCNL). The rooms can provide written quotes for out-of-pocket costs on request.
